A few of our Recent Events

Free BBQ at the Good Shepherd

We had BBQ'ed hotdogs and hamburgers on the lawn at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Saturday August 9th at lunch time. The food was free, and everyone in the neighborhood was invited. About 30 people enjoyed the good food, and fun, many who hadn't been at the Good Shepherd before.

Annual Picnic - 29th of June in Sunbury

We had a joint service followed by a picnic at St. John's on the 29th of June. All sorts of people came to Church at 9:15 for a communion service, and then headed out for the barbecue and swim that followed.

Hamburgers and hotdogs were provided by Jim Hopkins, and the salads and deserts were heavenly.

St John's Sunbury Celebrates 140th Anniversary

On Tuesday evening, the 24th of June at 7:00pm, we met for a sung Evening Prayer Service, led by Rev. Steve, followed by a reception at the Storrington Community Hall. We used the form of worship, and music from the time period when the church was founded. A number of people arrived in period dress as you can see from the picture.

The Ven. Ed Dallow spoke, reminding us all of the many good times we have had at St. John's, and as well of our call to continue to follow Jesus as his disciples into the future. We were fortunate to have many of our previous rectors in attendance.

The strawberry season DID co-operate just in time, so we were able to enjoy Strawberry shortcake, and lots of good company and conversation as well.

Toronto Youth Choir TC3 at the Redeemer

On Saturday June 14th 2003 at 2:00 PM we hosted the Toronto Youth Choir TC3. They are a Christian inner city youth choir who blend hip-hop, gospel and a variety of other musical styles. This was a great show so if you ever hear of them performing in your area, plan to attend. You will be impressed. The TC3 organization works to provide inner city youth with training in performance as well as academic subjects. You can find out more about them at http://groups.msn.com/tc3.

Paul Baetz Visited from Toronto

We had a visit from Paul Baetz, a Christian street worker who works out of Sanctuary in downtown Toronto. On Sunday the 25th of May he shared with us at both the Good Shepherd and at the Redeemer. We were greatly blessed to hear his story and learn of some of the things he is involved with.

Irish Liturgy

The parish celebrated St Patrick's day in style this year by using an Irish liturgy for a joint service at the Good Shepherd. It was an interesting contrast to the Book of Common Prayer, and the Book of Alternative Services communion services we usually use.

Ham Dinner AGAIN!

Earlier this month we all got together to enjoy another ham dinner at the Redeemer..the food and the fellowship was great as usual!

Retreat Weekend 2002

Well we sure had fun - as you know if your went!

About 40 people took part in a fun filled Friday Night and Saturday Program, on September 6th and 7th. We had glorious weather, and so we swam, and kayaked, and swam some more! As well our camp fire was fun, and we had lots of time to just hang out together.

Rev. Maude Parsons-Horst, gave a very interesting talk on Saturday morning, and Steve made it back safely from Kenya so he talked about what it was like there too.

The World Famous Spaghetti Supper

We had a spaghetti supper at the church on the 17th of July. Good food, good friends - a great time was had by all.

Pool Party

A pool party is always great! We all ate far more than we should have, and many of us got terribly waterlogged too. Yes it was our fearless leader Greg who got pushed into the pool fully dressed!
